Abstarct: Drilling is most common machining process. It’s difficault to find workpiece without drilled position. Due to this, drill is most usage cutting tools for making holes. Drill materials for usuall application in workshops is H.S.S and for high rate production with best accuracy is carbide and coated carbide. In this research although innovation is concentrated on optimizing drill coating but for comprehensing object, design and manufacturing drill has explained to aim complete process of drill design, manufacturing and optimizing coating. In this research 5 pcs of drills with diameter 12.3 and chamfer 90º has manufactured. This drills in used for drilling SAMAND brake caliper. 4 pcs of this drills has coated with various coatings. Selecting of coating type is done according to workpiece material and machining condition, mechanical, physical and mextallrgical properties of coates and their resistance against wear, heat and corrosion. Selected coates are: TiN/TiCN/Al2O3, TiN/TiCN/TiAlN/TiN, TiN/TiCN/TiN, TiN/TiAlN.five pcs of sample drills including one uncoated and 4 others with above mentioned coating has tested in same condition for drilling caliper holes until flank wear reaches maximum allowed wear. For each drill sample, flank wear, drilled hole diameter tolerance and roughness has measured after each 2000 workpieces. Measuring result has compared in sutable diagrmas.According to measuring parameters inculding: flank wear, hole diameter and hole roughness, The best result was for drill coated with TiN/TiCN/Al2O3 coating, after that better result was for TiN/TiCN/TiAlN/TiN, TiN/TiCN/TiN, TiN/TiAlN and finally uncoated drill.
