Abstarct: One of the basic problems in physics is radiation by a moving, classical, charged particle. In this thesis, using the AdS/CFT correspondence in the supergravity approximation, we study the energy density radiated by a heavy quark subjected to an external force in the vaccum of the strongly coupled N= 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. After computing the energy density radiate by the quark and the radiated power for the case where the quark trajectory in bounded, we obtain some unnatural features for those as compared to the corresponding classical results. As follows: • The energy distribution shows the same space-time localization as the classical radiation that would be produced by the heavy quark at weak coupling. • The radiated energy is anisotropy in the non-relativistic limits. • The presence of some regions with negative energy density in the non-relativistic limits. We find these strange results are artifacts of the supergravity approximation, which will be corrected after considering string fluctuations.
