Abstarct: The process of change and development in today’s societies has also affected buildings, in a way that their wear and deterioration is inevitable and eventually they may be deserted and no longer be suitable to serve their primary purpose, or due to lack of demand for their services, they may be made redundant. Under such circumstances, naturally, their initial usage does not fulfill the current requirements. Therefore, the possibility of upgrading and reusing as well as creating a different usage in order to adapt the building to the new conditions and needs may be assessed. Buildings and the industrial heritage left in the heart of urban centers as a result of the policy of deindustrialization of urban settings over the recent years in the country provide such a possibility. Protection of such areas as a symbol of the history of modernism in Iran and the heritage of the past industry, known as “industrial heritage”, lixnks the contemporary age to the past and reinforces the spirit of the place through this lixnkage, and this place can be considered as a space where collective memories are revived and preserved. Meanwhile, physical recovery and changing the functional structure, adapting the industrial heritage to the needs and requirements of today’s society as well as an economic revival through creation of new usages to make the industrial buildings profitable are some of the issues discussed in relation to industrial heritage. In this regard and given the importance of this issue, the present research seeks to identify the potentials of industrial heritage and includes the case study of the old silo of Shiraz as one of the valuable instances of industrial architecture in the country and studies the reuse of this industrial heritage in order to ensure the protection of this valuable historical/industrial site and prevent it from losing its identity. For this purpose, while examining theories regarding building adaptation, the need for adaptation has been discussed and baxsed on decision-making models, the potential for adaptive reuse of the old silo of Shiraz as well as determining a suitable alternative usage for reusing this industrial heritage will be investigated, and finally, a plan for adaptive reuse of this building will be presented.
