Abstarct: Purpose: the aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of 8-weeks combined exercise (aerobic and resistance exercises) on serum levels of sexual hormones in type2 diabetes men of Tabriz.
Method: this research was a clinical trial and included pretest and posttest. Statistical samples of this research were type2 diabetes men with the average age of 42.5±66 and BMI of 30.0±10.95 kg/m2 that were divided randomly in two groups of 15 members: 1.combined exercise (aerobic and resistance), 2. Control. Blood sampling was done before the beginning of the exercises and 48-hours after finishing of the exercises in fasting condition. Group 1 has been trained 60-70 minutes in 3 days per week for 8-weeks by combined exercises that included 30 min of aerobic exercise and 30-40 min of resistance exercises. In the first sessions the contributors after 10min of a warm up program, ran with the intensity of 60-70% HRmax on treadmill for 20min. after 5 min rest, they contributed in resistance exercise. The resistance exercise was performed with the intensity of 60% 1RM in 3 consecutive sets of 10-12 reps with 30seconds of rest intervals between each set and 120seconds of rest intervals between each station/round. In order to evaluate the in-group and between-groups differences dependent T-test with significance level of P<0.05 was utilized.
Findings: in-group findings showed that serum level of sexual hormones LH (P=0.001), FSH (P=0.001) and testosterone (P=0.002) in experience group after intervention had a significant increase, serum level of fasting glucose (P=0.022), insulin (P=0.021), and insulin resistance index (P=0.007) were decreased significantly in experience group. Also a significant decrease in BMI (P=0.001) was observed in experience group. In the between-group test too, a significant increase in serum level of sexual hormone LH and significant decrease in serum level of fasting glucose and BMI have been shown in experience group comparing with control group.
Conclusion: regarding the results of this study, combined exercises could significantly increase the serum level of men sexual hormones and decrease the risk factors in type2 diabetes men.
