Abstarct: One of the effective and widely method for protection of materials degradation at high temperature is using of thermal barrier coatings. Application of TBC improves the chemical, mechanical, and thermal properties of the high temperature components. In order to increase the efficiency and durability of TBC, they should be able to bear thermal cycles and have good resistance to hot corrosion and cyclic oxidation. In this research multilxayer TBC system consisted of CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/YSZ-La2O3 is deposited on the IN738 Supperalloy by using high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF), electrophoretic and atmospheric plasma spray (APS). Hot corrosion properties of coatings have been investigated in Na2SO4-20wt.% V2O5 molten salt at 870oC for 390h. Hot corrosion kinetic were determined by measuring the weight gain of the specimens at regular intervals. The effect of multilxayer on the corrosion properties was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and using TOFEL, Bode and Nyquist graphs. The nature of phases, investigation of the thermally grown oxide, examination of the surface attack and determination of the elemental distribution during hot corrosion, oxidation and thermal shock test were determined respectively by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. Using of YSZ-La2O3 composite coatings result in a delay in the formation of YVO4 and postpone monoclinic-ZrO2 phase transformation. Furthermore, lanthanum oxide in ceramic top laxyer will greatly improve the strength and fracture toughness of TBC coatings.
