Abstarct: Gold deposits have various mineralization types. One of these types of deposits is listweanite gold which is found in the ophiolithic zones. Considering the matallogenic extent of coloured mélange formations in Iran, the probability of this kind of gold mineralization is high. One of the regions, having the potential of listweanite gold mineralization, is ophiolithic zones of southeast of Iran. In this research, Mokhtaran area in south of Birjand was considered as an area having high potential of listweanite gold mineralization, This area was studied using weight of evidence (wofe) in GIS environment. The classification method of wofe is baxsed on Bayesian formula, and is a powerful statistical method to produce mineral potential maps in regional exploration scale. The integration of exploration laxyers such as geochemistry, geophysics, geology, structural geology and remote sensing, was made in GIS. 28 mineralized indices in the area was used in the calculations needed for wofe. After making these calculations in Arcview and excel software packages, and determining important exploration specifications, and then integration of the result, finally the area was classified baxsed on mineralization importance. The most important area, which has the highest mineral potential, is located in south of Mokhtaran. The surface of this exploration favorable area is 27 square kilometers, which includes approximately 1/1 percent of the total Mokhtaran area. This part of Mokhtaran is introduced as a prospect area for further detailed exploration. Finally, resistivity and induced polarization geophysical investigations in local scale were carried out in two subareas of Hangaran area, and the results were inverted using an inverse modeling procedure, and then suitable locations for exploration drilling were determined.
