Abstarct: Grinding has an excellent place in the mineral processing industry because of its essential
role in the extracting the precise minerals, reducing the associated cost of mineral
processing and decreasing the chemical materials consumption. Considering the desirable
grain sizes, process of grinding can be conducted within the both rod and ball mills. As the
origin shape of rods and balls has been ruined after a specific time, efficiency of mills will
decrees and considerable cost will be imposed to the mineral processing plants. As a matter
of fact, various rocks with different component and diverse physical and mechanical
properties are the most reasons of using unique rods and balls. The aim of this paper is to
determine proper grinding media for the Esfordi phosphate mine. For this purpose, firstly,
significant parameters and their associated effect on the grinding media are indicated and
investigated. Ultimately, all of the appropriate factors and methods are collected for the
selection of the reliable grinding media. In order to determine the proper grinding media,
respect to the various produced rods and balls and evaluating the condition of Esfordi
phosphate, four types of rods and balls has been selected. In the next stage, considering the
associated parameters of grinding media including dimensions, stiffness, density, cost,
input and output seed, mill velocity, work index, coherence index, percent of solid
materials and etc, multi criteria and fuzzy multi criteria decision making are used for
finding the best options. At last, steel balls and rods having chrome particles produced by
Ductile Machine and ISC Tokyo are selected as the best ones respectively.
