Abstarct: Today, despite development and progress in the construction of underground spaces, tunnel construction and underground spaces in loose and falling ground conditions is still a major challenge for engineers. In this type of land, due to the loose materials containing the land, it is necessary to
One of the methods of support before face drilling, which has made significant progress in recent years, is umbrella support method. In this study, experimental and analytical methods for selecting the type of system, calculating the safety factor of installed pipes as umbrella arches and numerical modeling for analyzing the effectiveness of umbrella arch system in tunnel 7 located in part 1 of Tehran shomal freeway were investigated.
For numerical analysis of the pre-supporting umbrella arch system, two methods of pile structural element and equivalent media of 20, 30 and 60 cm were used to model this system and the results of modeling were compared with each other. Numerical modeling of the system in both methods showed that this system greatly reduced tunnel displacement and ground settlement and caused the stability of the tunnel, local road and Gas transmission pipeline.
Comparison of the results obtained from modeling the umbrella system as structural elements and equivalent media were not much different from each other. Both methods can be used for modeling, but the equivalent media method for modeling is less complex.
