Abstarct: In this thesis, one of the oil well drilling methods is investigated: “Fuzzy Type II Control Design for Constant Bottom Hole Pressure in Managed Pressure Drilling.” Considering the non-linearity, the presence of disturbances, and various resources of uncertainty in the system, the thesis follows the design of a controller that can combine the simplicity of linear controllers and the efficiency of non-linear controllers simultaneously. For this purpose, Takagi-Sugno type 2 fuzzy modeling and the idea of parallel distributed compensation are used to design a fuzzy controller so that not only the stability and Convergence of the system to the desired pressure are guaranteed, but the physical and operational issues are also met. In this regard, the common quadratic Lyapunov function is used, and the conditions ensuring stability are extracted as a set of linear inequalities. After that, the largest region of attraction is also determined by solving a convex optimization problem while extracting the controlling parameters. Simulation results show that while maintaining the bottom-hole pressure within the defined limits, the proposed method in control criteria such as settling time, rise time, and overshoot have a more suitable function than the type 1 fuzzy control and proportional-integral-derivative control.
