TK1010 : Sustainable planning of energy resources in a rural microgrid

Due to the dispersion and long distance of rural areas from the main network, their electric energy supply by the network expansion is expensive. As an alternative scheme, the expansion planning of local energy resources in the rural areas has been paid attention while due to the effects of technical, economic and climatic conditions, the expansion planning is a complex decision-making problem. The expansion planning aims to find an optimal solution for the mix of local energy resources compared to the expansion of main network. Therefore, in this dissertation, the expansion planning of energy resources in a rural microgrid has been studied. A set of diverse energy sources, including conventional and renewable distributed generations and storages for procuring the electric energy demand has been investigated. Sustainable planning problem of energy resources in the rural microgrid has been formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming model with the aim of maximizing the investor's profit. The performance of proposed model in a 23-bus rural microgrid located in Shahrood city, Iran, has been investigated under different interest rates, as well as with and without energy subsidies. The results reveal that the expansion of energy resources in the rural microgrid is beneficial in the conditions of low interest rate and energy subsidies removal.
