Abstarct: Spark plug is a tool for transferring alternating sparks into the combustion chamber. In jet engines, combustion and flame are initiated by spark plugs. Aerial engine spark plug consists of main components including mextal body, ceramic insulator, central electrode and airtight sealing adhesive. In this dissertation manufacturing of the mextal shell of the spark plugs in jet engine J79-17 is dealt with. First a sample of the component is obtained. Upon dismantling the parts followed by dimensional measurement, engineering drawing of the mextal shell was developed. In addition, a sample of the mextallic part was sent to laboratory for characterization. Using the optical emission spectroscopy, it is confirmed that the shell is made of nickel baxsed Inconel 600 superalloy. The tolerances of the components wer determined baxsed on the finite element analyses in Abaqus and applied in the drawing. Inconel 600 raw material in shaft format was purchased. Due to the limited quantity of parts needed and geometrical features, and available equipment, machining and spark method is selected for production. After the production, tests are performed on the shell and features such as visual test, dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness are studied.
