Abstarct: The static analysis of mid-plane symmetric laminates uncouples into two different problems such as pure in-plane deformation with pure in-plane forces and the other, out-of-plane deformation with bending and transversal forces. The survey of literature revealed that very few solutions are available for bending of anisotropic plates containing holes. In this Thesis, by expanding the Lekhnitiskii’s analytical solution, the stress distribution around holes of any shape in symmetric laminated plates is investigated. In addition to providing a general solution for the moments distribution around holes in symmetric laminated plates under remotely applied bending moments individually, for the very first time, both of the maximum stress distribution around holes and failure strength analysis in symmetric laminates for in-plane and out-of- plane loading, separately has been done and important results have been recorded. In order to extend the Lekhnitiskii’s analytical method for stress analysis of perforated symmetric laminates with holes, by means of conformal mapping, the area external to the hole can be represented by the area inside the unit circle. In this Thesis, we tried to study the effect of different parameters such as stacking sequence, rotation angle of hole and bluntness on stress and moments distribution around holes. The finite element method has been used to check the accuracy of analytical results. The analytical results are in good agreement with the numerical results. The stress and moments distributions around circular, elliptical, Triangular, square, pentagonal and hexagonal holes has obtained. The results obtained clearly revealed that appropriate selection of bluntness and rotation angle of hole and with large number of ply groups, can decrease stress concentration.
