Abstarct: Air pollution is one of the most important environmentalchallenges in the world today, which has significant impacts on human health, ecosystems, and economic conditions of different regions. In this study, the air pollution situation in the Rifai region in southern Iraq was investigated using satellite image processing. The main objective of the study was to identify the areas with the highest levels of pollution and analyze the trend of air quality changes over a specific period of time.In this study, satellite data were collected from reliable sources such as Sentinel-2 and MODIS and analyzed using image processing techniques including radiometric correction, atmospheric correction, and air quality indices. In addition, indices such as AQI and NO₂, SO₂, and CO values were examined and the spatial distribution of pollutants was plotted. The results show that industrial areas and densely populated towns have the highest levels of pollution and the pollution trend has increased slightly during the study period. Satellite data analysis allows for theidentification of critical areas, planning for pollution reduction, and adopting appropriate environmental policies. This study shows that processing satellite images is an effective tool for air quality monitoring and environmental decision-making, and can contribute significantly to improving community health and environmental protection in the Rifai region.
