These days, one of the most common earthquake resistant systems for buildings in the country is the reinforced concrete shear wall system. The use of this system is very effective in increasing the seismic capacity of the structure and reducing lateral displacement.
Due to the fact that many structures were built before new version of the codes and due to implementing problems of shear wall in steel buildings as well as strict stirrup details, we try to improve concrete shear wall with intermediate ductility and upgrade it’s performance level to performance level of shear wall with special ductility in order to increase the seismic feature of structure and solve implementation problems.
In this research work, using numerical modeling in Opensees software, the behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls with intermediate ductility retrofited with FRP fibers and steel sheets was investigated. The results of the modeling show that strengthening the walls with FRP fibers and steel sheets greatly improves the lateral capacity, stiffness and ductility of the wall, so it is more economical to use steel sheets.
