Abstarct: Brick infill is one of the common infills which -according to common designing methods- its effect is ignored in behavior of structures. Its gravity load is the only thing that is applied. However, recent experiments indicate that the brick infill has certain effects on seismic behavior of structures.
Many structures that have been constructed with concrete moment frxame system and infills which due to various reasons -such as change in codes and weakness of construction- need to be retrofitted persuade researchers to study infill’s role in structure behavior. Recent studies show that strengthening infills can be helpful in improving structure behaviors.
Nowadays, use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) is one of the most useable retrofitting methods of reinforced concrete members. Using these polymers for strengthening brick members has attracted so much attention in recent years. By strengthening infills its properties -such as crushing and inflexibility- are improved and it can be used for the strengthening of the entire structure.
The main subject in this thesis is modeling the nonlinear behavior of concrete materials, brick wall and linear behavior of FRP with the use of ANSYS software. In order to model nonlinear behavior of concrete William-Warnk rupture criterion has been used. After that, a 1-story 1-span frxame in classes: 1- without infill, 2- with infill and 3- with infill that strengthened with FRP laminates are modeled. Accuracy of presented models had been validated baxsed on the results of tests done by other researchers.
After validation, we are going to study about the rate of improvement in structure behavior by strengthening with different shapes and thickness of FRP laminates.
