Abstarct: Since most basins which supply water resources are located in mountainous areas and snowfall is the dominant type of precipitation in these basins, estimation of the runoff resulted from snow melting through various seasons of the year, is an important issue in the management and planning of water resources in these areas. For this purpose, SRM, the snowmelt runoff simulation model, which has been applied for simulating the snowmelt runoff in 25 countries over 75 basins worldwide, was selected at the present study.
The basin which was investigated in this research was Lar Dam Basin which is located in the north of Tehran city and adjacent to the Damavand Peak. All of the meteorological and hydrometeric data were collected from 2009 to 2013 period.
First, by using Erdas remote sensing software, the snow data fromMOD10A2 product of MODIS sensor, was investigated. Using this method, the snowpack area which is one of the important inputs of SRM model was obtained. After this step, by applying Geographic Information System (GIS), the digital topographic model of the studied basin was created baxsed on topographic maps. Then, the Hypsometric map and its classification were provided baxsed on the elevation of each area. In the next step, the values of precipitation as well as temperature obtained from adjacent meteorological station and were introduced to the model. The model was first calibrated using the data obtained from 2009 to 2011. The coefficient of determination and volumetric difference were 0.698 and 5.553, respectively. The model was validated using the data obtained from 2011 to 2013. The coefficient of determination and volumetric difference for validation period were 0.556 and 16.09, respectively.
