Abstarct: Chute spillways are one of the most efficient hydraulic structures for transferring a large volume of water to downstream in embankment dams where the river bed soil is not strong against water erosion. flow is generally supercritical in This type of spillway and due to the high velocity flow is turbulent. Thus, in the simulation, turbulence modeling is of great importance. This research leading to study the different turbulence models in chute spillways. Fluent software is used for simulation the flow. This software uses the finite volume method to solve the governing equations. Volume of fluid (VOF) method used for free surface simulation. Standard k-ε, RNG k-ε, Realizable k-ε, standard k-ω and SST k-ω turbulence models are compared. These models have been tested for three different discharge and static pressure values at 06 sections, velocities at 81 sections and the water surface profile along the chute, is measured. In order to check the accuracy of the results the experimental model of the Azad Dam on river embankments Cham in Kurdestan is used. The results show that standard kω and k-ω SST models are closer to the experimental data. K-ε models have poor performance in the near wall region where the velocity of flow locally reduced. In the next step, Flow condition on three aerator placed on chute were studied. The k-ω SST model offers better results. This model act similar to standard k-ω model near walls and similar to standard k-ε model away from the walls. So, k-ω SST model has a better performance in comparison with other models.
