Abstarct: Ductility in connections is an indispensable requirement for all earthquake resistant RC structures.
Nevertheless , many existing RC structures suffer from lack of sufficient ductility in their connections due to lack of suitable and sufficient regulations in the old codes.
The major goal of the current study has been the ductility enhancement of RC connections with FRP overlays. To do so, 1 control specimens named "baxse" were defined.
The longitudinal reinforcement of beam in the baxse specimens is about 0.3 and The longitudinal reinforcement of the columns was considered about 4% and in the baxse specimens it satisfied The shear capacity of the beams and general criteria of ACI for column stirrups. (ACI 318 – 99 ch.21)
In order to increase the ductility of the joints strengthening of the connections was carried out.
The strengthening plans were FRP overlays while each plan were designed with different length and thicknesses of FRP laminates. Totally 13 cases were defined for strengthening of baxse specimens.
Strengthened cases were modeled with ANSYS program and the nonlinear analysis performed for each model.
The results indicated that the ductility of baxse specimens strengthened. In 93% of cases ductility increased between 9% to 36%
