Abstarct: Dam is one of the important structures which are used for storing water in purpose of agricultural, industrial and drinking, as well as for energy production. With the destruction of dams in addition to financial damage, if there are villages and residential areas at the downstream of the dams, irreparable damage occurs. Pressure changes and hydrodynamic effects of the earthquake on dam and foundation are important and must be considered in its analysis. In this study, using Abaqus 6.14 software, analysis of Latian dam was performed in three states of static, dynamic, and hydrodynamic modes.
Static analysis was carried out without applying earthquake force under the influence of weight and hydro-static water pressure. The results of static analysis showed that the tensile stress was 94.1 MPa and the compressive stress was 2.7 MPa. For dynamical and hydrodynamic analysis, three earthquakes namely Tabas, Roudbar and El Centro were considered. In dynamic modeling with Tabas earthquake, the amount of tensile stress was 13.58 MPa and the compressive stress was 14.88 MPa. In the Roudbar earthquake, the tensile stress was 11.08 MPa and the compressive stress was 9.51 MPa, and also in the earthquake of El Centro the tensile and compressive stresses were 1.90 and 2.42 Mpa, respectively. The results of the implementation of the hydrodynamic model by the three earthquakes indicated that the tensile stress in the earthquake was 16.02 MPa and the compressive stress was 14.10 MPa. In the Roudbar earthquake, the tensile stress and compressive stress was obtained 9.68 MPa and 12.30 MPa, respectively. Also, the tensile stresses and compressive stresses during the El-Centro earthquake were 2.84 and 2.72 MPa, respectively. Also, the results of the implementation of the hydrodynamic model by three earthquakes showed that the amount of hydrodynamic pressure in the Tabas, Roudbar and El Centro earthquakes were 0.59, 0.91, and 0.32 MPa.
According to the results of this study, the stresses in the static state are less than the allowable stress, and dam is stable under the influence of weight and pressure hydrostatic pressures. Also, considering the stresses in dynamic and hydrodynamic modeling during the Rudbar and Tabas earthquakes, it was found that the stresses were more than the concrete strength, and as a result, the Latian dam damaged during these two earthquakes. It should be noted that due to the results of model implementation, the EL-centro earthquake is stable in both dynamic and hydrodynamic conditions and does not threaten the dam.
