Abstarct: Masihabad chromite mines are located in northeastern Mayamey within the Upper Cretaceous ophiolite sequence. The host rocks of these chromites include harzburgites, dunites and lherzolites, which the former are more abundant. Occasionally, these units were associated by micro-gabbric dykes. baxsed on the results of electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), serpentines in the lherzolite and dunite of the area are antigorite and lizardite in compositions. Orthopyroxene with enstatite composition and clinopyroxene with diopside composition whose contain Mg# between 0.64-0.94 and TiO2 < 0.07 wt% seem the be formed in high pressure from depleted mantle origin in subduction zone environment. Chromium spinels of Masihabad ophiolites are brown to black in colours under a microscope and have chromium oxide content values between 0.58 and 1.76%. Accordingly, they are chromium spinel type and their high chromium content indicates residues due to high melting degrees (15-20%) from forearc setting. Moreover, the lherzolite and dunite rocks plot in the field of forearc setting in TiO2 vs. Cr# and Mg# vs. Cr#; while dunite rocks attend more to boninitic field, originated from hydrated depleted mantle. Due to the low amount of titanium and aluminum, the harzburgites, dunites and lherzolites of Masihabad region are located in the peridotite field of the subduction zone. Considering all the above, it seems that the Sabzevar ophiolite complex is formed above the subduction zone.
