Abstarct: Salman oil field is located approximately 142 km south of Lavan Island and follows the structural trend of Zagros. The structure of this field is in the form of an asymmetric anticline with an approximate length of 14 km and an approximate width of 11 km, with a structural trend of NE-SW. The field is geologically composed of three laxyers including lower and upper oil production laxyers with Jurassic in age and a boeib laxyer with Cretaceous in age. The upper Surmeh Formation (equivalent to the Arab Formation) as a classic dolomitic carbonate sequence and one of the most important reservoir formations in the world with a upper Jurassic age, is an important oil exploration formation, especially in the Iranian part of the Persian Gulf. In this study, subsurface fractures and the status of in-situ stresses in the upper Arab part of the Upper Surmeh Formation were identified and analyzed using FMI logs in Salman oil field. The results of this work showed that in the Upper Surmeh Formation (Upper Arabian section) in well A has 206 continuous and discontinuous open fractures with N60E-S60W trend and 96 continuous and discontinuous closed fractures with two N50E-S50W and N45W-S45E trend However, in the Upper Arabian of well B, just two induced tensile fractures with N55E-S55W trend were detected.
Fractures with NE-SW trend are parallel to the laxyering and structural axis and fractures with NW-SE trend are perpendicular to the structural axis. A possible fault in section U3 of well A was identified by the N65W-S65E trend and ten zones were detected with relatively high fracture density and were considered as key zones for oil production. According to the direction of induced tensile fractures and observed Breakouts, maximum and minimum horizontal stresses are oriented N55E-S55W and N45W-S45E directions, respectively.
