Abstarct: It is important to use groundwater in our country, which is climateally located in semi-arid to arid area. Excessive exploitation of groundwater, in particular in these areas, has had negative environmental impacts. The area of Kerdi- Shirazi plain of with an area of 131.6 km2 is a part of Roodkhaneh district in the city of Roudan, located in the northeast of Hormozgan province. In the Kerdi- Shirazi plain, groundwater resources overexploitation was done by agricultural wells. Investigation of groundwater level using piezometers in the plain shows that the average groundwater level elevation has dropped from 500 meters in 1999 to 464/5 meters in 2015. Groundwater level changes during the 16-years period show a drop of 35.5 meters. The obtained results of groundwater balance during a year (2014-2015) indicate that the aquifer had a deficit of about 2.6 Mm3. The development of agriculture and groundwater resources overexploitation caused the Kerdi- Shirazi plain to be the prohibitted critical plain of the province. The groundwater level drop down leads to considerable stress loading on the aquifer forming sediments and compaction and settlement of them. Consequently, a large fissure with 568 meter measured length was appeared at the north west part of the plain in 2015. The results of this study indicate that two main factors including groundwater level drop down and changes in fine-grained clay laxyer thickness caused unequal subsidence, creation of tensile region, and consequently occurrences of the fissure. baxsed on these factors, hazard map of land subsidence was prepared with three categories including high, moderate and low hazard areas.
