Abstarct: From geologic point of view, Band-e-Ghichy copper deposit is located in northern border of central Iran structural zone and geographically located in 120 km south of Shahrood and 70 km south East of Torud. Rocks exposed in the studied area ranging from Oligocene to Quaternary. These exposed rocks from oldest to youngest include a sequence of shale, mudstone, siltstone, sandstone and conglomerate, a sequence of marl, conglomerate and sandstone and finally Quaternary alluvial sediments, brine and swamp. Copper mineralization is associated with Oligocene sandstone, conglomerate and siltestone rocks. There are three kind of mineralization In Band-e-Ghichy area: stratiform (syngenetic), stratabound (epigenetic) and supergen (the surface). Factors including the suitable soure rocks, chloride brine as a mobility agent of copper and other mextals, joints and faults as channels for fluids transport and reducing agent such as organic material and pyrite, are the most important controlling factors of mineralization in Band-e- Ghichy copper deposit. Two important alteration observed in the area are argillic and iron oxides. Main mineral assemblage of deposit are divided into 6 groups: sulphide minerals (chalcocite, covellite, bornite, chalcopyrite and pyrite), carbonate minerals (malachite and azurite), oxide and hydroxide minerals (goethite, hematite and limonite), sulphate minerals (celestite and gypsum), chloride minerals (halite, atachamite, paralaurionite and laurionite) and gangue minerals (calcite and quartz). The most important structures which observed in the area are laxyer and vein. Open space filling, cement among graines, disseminated, replacement and massive are the most important mineral textures. Geochemical study results show that the sandstones have felsic to intermediate volcanic source rocks. Also check of copper correlation matrix with main oxides and different elements indicate high correlation between copper and Fe2O3 and MnO. The highest correlation is between copper and silver and the lowest correlation between copper and stronsium. Eocene andesitic units significant development adjacent of deposits, abundance of copper indicates and deposits in the region and the presence of volcanic fragments containing copper minerals in the host conglomerate units in the region indicate that the andesitic fragments can be considered as origin of copper. According to the basic characteristics of Band-e-Ghichy copper deposit including host¬rock, mineralogy, structure, texture, geometry, element paragenesis, depositional environment and important mineralization factors Band-e-Ghichy copper deposit can be considered as a sediment-hosted Redbed type.
