Abstarct: Moalleman area is located about 120 km to the south ofDamghan and at the northern edge of the central Kavir. The study area includes an unconfined aquifer thatunderlies the Sarkavir area. This aquifer is composed of alluvial deposits of present age. In this area there is no piezometric data and for the preparation of piezometric map of the plain, information relating to the pumping wells and qanats in the region in March 2014 was used. According to piezometric map, the direction of groundwater flow is from the northwest to the south and southeast. The highest hydraulic gradient value is about one percent and belongs to the northwestern parts (upstream area), and the lowest value is about six tenth of a percent and belongs to the southeastern parts (downstream area). The hydraulic gradient variation in the South is low, probably due to two reasons. First, because of drainage by qanats, water flow in the downstream is low. Second, the dip of the aquifer bedrock is probably decreases in the downstream part. In order to evaluate the quality of groundwater in the Moalleman area, samples were taken from 4 wells and 6 qanats in March 2014. Parameters measured at the sampling site, include electrical conductivity, pH and temperature of the water. Other parameters include sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, chloride, and sulfate which have been measured in the laboratory. The results of electrical conductivity values show that the direction of groundwater flow and the change of the geological formations and by getting closer to the salt marsh and desert, the water quality in the southern part of the region is considerably reduced. This reduction is such that the electrical conductivity values are 3000 µmhos/cm in the north but are higher than 6000 µmhos/cm in the south. The predominant type of water in the aquifer is chloride-sodium.
