Abstarct: Ceramic coatings specially nanostructured ceramic coatings have widespread application in surface physics and engineering. These coatings are applied to improve surface performance of pieces. The ceramic nanocoatings use to creation or reinforcement of sort of surface property without weaken other. In this project, titanium baxsed ceramic nanocoatings were investigated to achieve the protective coatings (wear resistance and anti-scratch) on stainless steel for workpieces as well as decorative applications. TiN, TiC and TiBN coatings are the commercial coatings in this feld which deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering on 304 steel substrate. Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) used to phase study, microstructure and surface morphology measured by Field Emission Scanning Electron microscopy (FESEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The mechanical properties measured by Nanoindentation and Nano scratch testers. The thickness of the coatings are indicated approximately 1µm . Hardness of the TiBN coating degreased signifcantly with expose of the nitrogen. For decorative application have been made attractive colors (gold, blue , green and black).
