Abstarct: Residents and visitors of neighborhoods with high walkability and a suitable social environment take more walks and enjoy their walks more than neighborhoods with less walkability. Therefore neighborhoods with high walkability and a suitable social environment are the basis for improving people's physical health and mental well-being. In previous research, they focused on the influencing factors on the walking quantity and less attention has been paid to walking quality. Also, studies have usually been about neighborhood residents, and less research has investigated the effect of walkability on the walking of both residents and tourists. In addition, no study has been done on the residents and tourists of the historical fabric of Kerman. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to investigate the effect of walkability on the quantity and quality of walking of residents and tourists in the historical fabric of Kerman City. The approach of this research is quantitative and the method of this research is descxriptive-analytical. The area under study in this research is the historical fabric of Kerman city with an area of 483 hectares and the statistical population of this research includes residents and tourists of this area who were randomly evaluated over the age of 18 years. The sample size of this research was 513 people using Gpower software. The initial sample size of this research was 600 people, including 300 residents, 200 domestic tourists, and 100 foreign tourists, and the final sample size was 531 people. Data collection was done through a questionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by factor analysis and alpha and omega coefficients. The content validity of the construct was confirmed by experts and the construct validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by factor analysis. Descxriptive statistical methods and inferential statistical methods including exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and complete structural equation modeling were used for data analysis. The software used were SPSS23 and AMOS24. Principal component analysis was performed on the variables of the theoretical frxamework and security, path obstruction and safety, access to public spaces, and social cohesion were identified as independent variables. Walking quality and walking quantity were also obtained as dependent variables. Also, confirmatory factor analysis was performed for the underlying variables and complete structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses. The results of the research showed that the variables of security, access to public spaces, and social cohesion have a positive and significant effect on the quality of walking, and also the factor of path obstruction and safety has a negative and significant effect on the quantity of walking. In addition, by examining the demographic variables, it was found that the level of education has a negative and significant effect on the quality of walking. Also, the length of stay has a negative and significant effect on the amount of walking, and having a personal car also has a positive and significant effect on the amount of walking. The moderating role of the type of people in the society (residents and tourists) is also significant in the relationship between walking variables on walking quality and walking quantity. According to the results of the research, strategies were proposed to improve the quality and increase the walking of the residents and tourists of the historical fabric of Kerman.
