NA51 : "The Little Iran's Gate" The Design of Karaj Socio-Commercial Center with focus on symbolic dimensions

Abstarct: Nowadays, living in the cities, leads to better life quality and higher spare times for many people. These spare times push people to shopping centers and malls. the lack of such entertainment centers, makes some problems in new cities like Karaj. in Provinces like Alborz which has a vast variety of people with different cultures, the lack of such entertainments, rises the potentiality of many social disorders.
In this project, we try to propose a commercial-entertaining-social complex. Besides fulfilling people shopping needs, this complex can provide its visitors with different entertainment facilities which leads to reduce street traffics and its related problems.
In this project, we try to use architecture symbolic aspects and memorizing basics to make a favorite complex for the people. In some traditional approaches, some architects suggest using different symbols for different tribes. But in this project, we want to propose a single architectural system which can cover all of these cultural varieties and turns to a nostalgic monument for people in future years.
A complete investigation of different aspects has been done in this study. These investigations include traditional bazars and their change procedure in time, municipal lifestyle changes and their effects on bazars, the spare time and entertainment concept and their changes in current century, living in the cities and the necessity for spare time planning to prevent some social disorders, frxameworks for designing municipal spaces, space evaluation quality metrics, architecture symbolism, the relation between architecture and identity, some native and foreign case studies and designing standards for commercial cultural spaces.
Designing in its basics is composed of collecting different applications and organizing them in a unique set. This set, besides having a unification and correlation between its components, is a composition of activities and applications with different features Which make a special effect in people’s mind.
One of the Main features of this complex, is the active and energetic life style it injects to the people. Moreover, the design of this complex is in a way with maximum face to face connections of visitors for better level of social relation.
