GV347 : The effect of spectators' motivation on sports event attachment with the mediating role of satisfaction

Abstarct: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of spectators' motivation on attachment to sports events with the role of satisfaction mediator. The present research is of descxriptive-correlation type, and the objective type is an applied study. The statistical population of this research included horse-riding spectators of Gonbad-Kavus, 233 of whom were used by available sampling method. To collect data, questionnaires were used from the 3-question satisfaction questionnaire of Trail and James (2001), the 6-question attachment questionnaire of Lee et al. (2013) and the 5-question motivation questionnaire of Ben Maxton (2019). The face and content validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by 9 experts and professors of sports management. To determine the reliability of the questionnaires, 30 distribution questionnaires and Cronbach's alpha of motivation, attachment, and satisfaction questionnaires were obtained, respectively, 0.93, 0.92, and 0.88, which had Cronbach's alpha value and combined reliability above 0.7 and were suitable. It can be considered as a reliable situation. Descxriptive and inferential statistics were used for statistical analysis of the data using SPSS and Smart PLS software. The results of the inferential analysis of the data showed that the audience's motivation had a positive and significant effect (0.43) on the attachment to the event. Also, audience motivation had a positive and significant effect on satisfaction (0.86), and on the other hand, satisfaction had a significant effect on attachment to the event (0.44). Finally, the results showed that audience motivation has an indirect effect on attachment to the event through satisfaction. It is suggested that the officials and organizers of the sports event, by identifying the motivation of the spectators to attend the sports event, provide the satisfaction of the spectators, which will increase the attachment of the spectators to the sports event.
