Abstarct: Peripheral neuropathy is one of the common complications of diabetes that leads to weakening the quality of life of patients. The purpose of this study, investigating the effect of deep sensory training on quality of life, sleep quality, and risk of falls in patients with peripheral neuropathy of type 2 diabetes.
Materials and methods: In this clinical trial study, 30 patients with peripheral neuropathy of type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. The experimental group had three sessions per week of Practicing proprioception program with the aim of stimulating the soles of the feet for 20 to 30 minutes in each session. Before and after the intervention period, clinical symptoms of neuropathy (Michigan Diabetic Neuropathy Score), indicators of quality of life (36-item quality of life questionnaire), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire) and fall risk (Fall Risk Questionnaire) were evaluated. The obtained data were analyzed using dependent t-tests and one-way analysis of variance at a significant level (0.05).
Results: The results showed that the quality of life, sleep quality and the risk of falls in the experimental group improved significantly compared to the control group.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it seems that Practicing proprioception are a suitable intervention to deal with the complications related to peripheral neuropathy of diabetes, including reducing the quality of life in these patients.
