GV17 : The study of motivations of women’s participation in recreational water sports (case study : women of Khorasan Razavi province)

Abstarct: Sport and exercise is part of the culture of each nation. The main focus of water sports is on social values such as improved quality of life, the importance of physical and mental health, satisfying personal needs, entertainment, and motive. All this leads us to believe that women have attitudes to physical activity and exercise. These trends and tendencies associated with the importance of swimming as a physical activity is recommended by many health professionals who demand the different sectors of the population is leading to increased water activity programs. This study aimed to examine the motives of women's participation in recreational water sports in Razavi Khorasan Province. The method which was applied in this research was descxriptive-correlation. Factor analysis with a varimax rotation was used to analyze the data of the women participation motivations in recreational water sports. The statistical populations consist of all women in Razavi Khorasan province who participate in recreational water sports. In this study for analyzes the women participation motivations in recreational water sports, 350 women Khorasan Province(Of five regions of North, South, East, West and Central Province) were selected as random cluster method. Researcher- made questionnaire was used to collect data which its content and face validity was checked and confirmed by expert university panel. Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient was used to test the reliability of the questionnaire (α=0/890). Factor analysis with a varimax rotation was used to analyze the data of the women participation motivation in recreational water sports. Thirty seven motivational variables were selected and classified into eight categories “ pleasure and relaxation, fitness, health and sanitation, skills, aspects of social, Success and recognition, prevention and treatment of disease and seeking excellence. The results showed that the most important motive was “I enjoy it” (mean=4/56) and the least important motive was “My doctor has recommended physical activity and exercise in the water” (mean=3/58). The results show, pleasure and relaxation motive is the most important motive for women's participation in recreational water sports. Therefor planners of public sports and recreation through women’s justification than the changes in relaxation and enjoyable created in recreational water sports, as well as posters produced and reproduced that to express this subjects form understandable to the public, Cause women tend to benefit from useful income in these exercises. At the end, some guidelines were suggested to managers and planners these sports.
