Brake pads are one of the most widely used products in the automotive industry. Due to the excessive use of this product in cars, it has biodegradation effects on the environment, therefore, in this research, we tried to use environmentally friendly materials (not using asbestos and copper powder) and materials that are considered as waste materials in nature, such as Fly ash, which is a waste product of steelmaking furnaces, is used.
In this research, an attempt has been made to improve the final properties of brake pads used in light vehicles by using phenolic resin along with fillers that include abrasives and lubricants, as well as materials that are used to reduce the final price of the pads. It was also studied to strengthen the brake pad from fibers (carbon fiber and kevlar) and its effect on the final properties of the brake pad. Many articles have been written about pad production and improving their final properties. In this research, by changing the used materials, an attempt has been made to improve the final properties. In this research, after making the sample, friction coefficient tests were performed in the three initial stages, hot state and finishing stage, wear, hardness, water and oil absorption, as well as scanning electron microscope. The effect of changing materials on each sample was investigated. By changing the amount of carbon fiber, the friction coefficient increases at the beginning, and then by increasing the amount of carbon fiber, it causes a decrease in the friction coefficient in the initial and thermal stages, as well as a decrease in the wear coefficient and an increase in the porosity of the sample. In this research, by adding kevlar fibers, the wear resistance increased But the coefficient of friction in the hot state has dropped. The sample containing serpiolite fibers had more balanced wear coefficient and friction coefficient than other samples.
