Abstarct: In this study, the possibility for the removal of Acid Blue 92 dye, Copper and Nickel from aqueous solution have been investigated using red mud as a low-cost mineral adsorbent. The effects of pH, contact time, initial dye and heavy mextals concentration, adsorbent dosage and temperature on the adsorption process were taken into account. The results were evaluated by Langmuir, Freundlich and BET isotherms. The kinetics effect of the adsorbent were also investigated for pH=2, 4, 6 for dye, pH=2, 4, 6, 8 for heavy mextals. The result show that at all pH considered, the rate of sorption Acid Blue 92 dye by activated red mud, follows a pseudo-second order kinetics model and the rate of sorption Copper and Nickel follows a pseudo-first order kinetics model. Furthermore, activated red mud showed to have the highest capacity for the removal of Acid Blue 92, Copper and Nickel under acidic conditions. The effect of initial dye and heavy mextals concentration ranged from 25 to 150 mg/l at temperature 25ºC, a centrifugal rate 4000 rpm, pH=2 for dye and pH=6 for heavy mextals was further studied. The result show that the percentage removal of dye and heavy mextals decreased with the increase in initial concentration. The variation of the adsorption of Acid Blue 92, Copper and Nickel on activated red mud over a broad range of temperature changed from 25ºC to 55ºC were examined. The result show that an increase in temperature raised the percent removal of dye and heavy mextals from the aqueous solution. The maximum percent removal of dye and heavy mextals from aqueous solution using an activated red mud under pH=2 for Acid Blue 92 dye, pH=6 for Copper and Nickel mextals, an initial dye concentration of 75 mg/l and 125 mg/l for heavy mextals, at temperature 25ºC, a centrifugal 4000 rpm and for a time period of 90 minutes were 94%, 99.14% and 99.1% respectively.
