Abstarct: An outburst refers to the abrupt collapse and dispersion of a coal laxyer, unintended and accoMPanied by a vast expulsion of gas, powerful enough to hurl the fragmented coal over considerable distances. During such an event, gas is released swiftly and copiously from coal seams or rocks, causing a simultaneous ejection of large masses of coal or rock. This expulsion of gas poses a critical and profound safety hazard in coal mining operations. In this paper, we examine the factors contributing to the outburst phenomenon and its related fault tree in coal mines. Fault tree analysis reveals that the instantaneous release of gas (Top Event) is associated with four main intermediate events: the gas properties, the mechanical properties of the coal laxyer, the geological conditions, and the vertical and horizontal confining stresses. Additionally, the method of methane gas drainage is considered. By identifying these factors, we can calculate the system's failure rate. This study elucidates the factors that influence outbursts in coal seams, explores their interplay and the role of gas flow in these episodes, then presents a newly designed laboratory apparatus aimed at scrutinizing the sudden release of coal gas in longwall mining and proposing a drainage solution. The findings indicated that the system experiences a rise in temperature during the instantaneous release event. Additionally, variations in the characteristics of the two laxyers resulted in different behaviors during gas emissions. Furthermore, during the gasification tests, a reduction in the suction pressure by 20% of the tank's internal pressure effectively prevented the emissions of coal gas.
