Abstarct: With the increasing of the energy crisis and air pollution resulted from the traditional methods of electricity generation the renewablegeneration systems and generation have attracted great intrests in recent years. The amount of energy obtained from a wind energy conversion system(WECS) depends not only on the charactristics of the wind regime at the site, but depends on the control strategy used for WECS. In this thesis we use a direct driven permanent magnet synchronous generator(PMSG) that is connected through a full scale voltage source convertor, the two convertor are connected by a DC lixnk capacitor in order to have separate control for each one. this thesis investigates vector control mechanism for a PMSG wind turbine that has two side-by-side voltage source pulswidth modulation converters. The proposed approach is baxsed on a direct current vector control mechanism. machine side converter is used to control the torque and the speed, the grid side convertor is used to control the transit power in order to keep DC-lixnk voltage constant. Then, an optimal control straregy is developed for intergrated control of PMSG maximum power extraction , reactive power, and grid voltage support controls. A transient system simulation using Simulixnk/matlab is built to investigate the performance of the conventional and proposed control techniques for the PMSG wind turbine under steady and gusty wind conditions. This thesis shows that when using the direct-current vector control structure, a PMSG system has excellent performance in various aspects.
