Abstarct: Lightweight sandwich panels are widely used in aerospace, marine, automotive, windmills and construction industries due to their high flexural stiffness-to-weight ratio, excellent thermal insulation, and high energy absorption capability. Thses panels consist of two thin but stiff face-sheets at the top and bottom, separated by a lightweight and relatively thick core. Aithough the lightweight core adds minimal weight, it provides sandwich panels with a high bending stiffness and buckling resistance. The recent progress in advanced manufacturing technologies, such as additive manufacturing (3D printing) and laser cutting, has allowed the production of architected cellular cores that were impossible to be fabricated using conventional manufacturing processes, like extrusion, milling and corrugation.
