Abstarct: Predicting the seismic damage spectrum of a structure, which encompasses both structural and earthquake characteristics, is of great importance during the design of new structures and for assessing the resilience of existing ones. The objective of this research is to accurately assess the damage and predict the seismic damage spectrum under the influence of earthquakes in Iran using gene exxpression programming. Gene exxpression programming is a learning and optimization technique baxsed on genetic principles and molecular biology. For this purpose, a single-degree-of-freedom non-linear system is used under a set of earthquake records in Iran to calculate the accurate damage spectrum. This allows for the calculation of the spectrum of damage or failure. Then, a mathematical model baxsed on gene exxpression programming and genetic programming algorithms is extracted using gene exxpression programming. Predicting the potential damage for a wide range of structures, which can be directly provided by damage spectra, can be used in the design of resilient new structures or the seismic resistance assessment of existing structures. The Park-Ang Damage Index is used to quantify the level of seismic damage or damage spectra. Both structural characteristics and earthquake properties play a role in predicting the model of seismic damage spectrum. The structural characteristics used are the fundamental period of vibration (T), post-yield stiffness ratio ‏(α)‏, damping ratio (ζ)‏‏, strength reduction factor ‏(R_u)‏, ductility factor (μ_u), and the positive constant of the Park-Ang damage index (β) In addition, some characteristics of the earthquake include different types of soil baxsed on the shear wave velocities corresponding to the 30 m in depth 〖(V〗_"s.30" ) and magnitude (M) greater than 4 and the source-to-site distance 〖(R〗_JB)When determining, considered spectral damage. At the end, a simplified equation has been proposed to facilitate the measurement of the potential seismic damage spectrum for structures subjected to ground motions in Iran, which incorporates both structural characteristics and earthquake properties.
