Abstarct: The high cost of chemical fertilizers caused that the absorption and utilization of nutrients must be in high performance. Silica is as an essential element for crop plants and an important food source for the growth and yield of rice. If no adequate replacement for this element, plants are faced with a shortage of silica causing serious eating disorder and instability in plant resistance to pests. This experiment was done to investigate the effect of two different sources of silica on growth, yield and tolerance to rice stem borer in Tarom Hashemi variety and 843 lines of rice plant. The experiment was done in farm of rice research center in Amol in 1390 as a factorial baxsed on randomized complete block design in three replications. Treatments under experiment included two rice varieties, line 843 (V1) and Tarom Hashemi variety (V2), tow type of silica sources, SiO2 73% (S1) and remains of Savadkoh mine 22% (S2). The amount of silica was used in three levels: 0 (D1), 250 (D2) and 500 kg/ha (D3) of pure silica. The results showed that line 843 in all characters except of plant height, weight of 1000 grains and tolerance to stem borer worm significantly was more compared to the Tarom Hashemi variety and indicate that two silica sources were not significantly difference in all characters. Also showed that treatment with 250 kg/ha of silica is the best treatment of silica fertilizer. The used of this fertilizer significantly increased stem silica, leaf silica, the number of tiller, flag leaf area, leaf dry weight, weight of 1000 grains and yield and also significantly decreased second leaf angle to stem and damage of the rice stem borer. So that this fertilizer increased the flag leaf area to 14%, leaf dry weight to 15.3 % and the yield of the plants to 14.9 %.
