Abstarct: Drought is one of the abiotic stresses that limit plant growth and crop production. In the last decade, drought especially in Iran has made the development and use of water preservation systems a necessity. Among agricultural plants, safflower which is resistant against salty and dry conditions and also produces high quality, pharmaceutical oils. In order to evaluate influence of biochar and super absorbent on some morphological and physiological characteristics of safflower under water deficit stress, an experiment was conducted as split-plot factorial baxsed on randomized complete block design with three replicates in the farm of Shahrood University of Technology .Three level of drought were assigned as a major factor (7, 10 and 14 days irrigation periods) and bochar treatment (0.10.20 ton per hectare ) as the first sub-factor and superabsorbent treatments (with and without) as the second sub-factor. Results showed that, the effect of drought stress on phosphorus and sodium in seeds was significant. Also biochar and superabsorbent treatments had significant effects on biological yield, boll count. Plant pigments, membrane stability and percentage of potassium in seeds. With increased irrigation, proline content and the percentage increase in potassium and chlorophyll content decreased. Interaction effect of biochar and superabsorbent significantly increased dry weight of stem, leaves, membranes and seed performance. Also interaction of drought and biochar significantly increased proline levels while interaction of drought and superabsorbent the dry weight of bolls, relative water content in the leaves, and oil percentage in the seeds. In conclusion, biochar and superabsorbent had the highest impact on physiological characteristics of the plant in drought conditions and caused an increase in the ability to maintain of the moisture levels which resulted in improved growth and nutrition of the safflower plant.
