Abstarct: Ecological methods are necessary in sustainable agricultural system to reduce environmental risks. This study was in order to compare humic acid and urea fertilizer in some traits of sunflower in a field trial. The experiment was a factorial baxsed on complete randomized block design with 3 replications. The first factor was humic acid at three levels (without, foliar application in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and granular application in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations), the second factor was urea fertilizer at two levels (0 and 100 kg/ha) and the third factor was two sunflower cultivars (Azargol and Hysun33). The results show that use of both form of humic acid increased leaf dry weight, shoot dry weight, oil yield, protein yield, mycorrhizal colonization, number of seeds, grain yield and biological yield. The effect of N application was significant on leaf dry weight, head dry weight shoot dry weight, plant height, oil yield, protein yield, percentage of mycorrhizal colonization, number of seeds, grain yield and biological yield. The effect of cultivars was significant on number of seeds, grain yield, biological yield and harvest index. Between the cultivars, Azargol produced higher leaf dry weight, head dry weight, oil yield, protein yield, shoot K concentration, percentage of mycorrhizal colonization, number of seeds, grain yield and biological yield, harvest index. Hysun33 produced higher shoot dry weight and shoot phosphorus concentration. Interaction of humic acid × urea was significant on plant dry weight, shoot P concentration, shoot K concentration, a and b and total chlorophyll, percentage of mycorrhizal colonization, number of seeds, grain yield and biological yield. It seems that using humic acid is important in sunflower production regarding to sustainable agriculture. It is speculated that using organic fertilizer will increase yield of sunflower and decrease the risk of chemical fertilizer, also is important in development of physis-chemical properties of soil.
