Abstarct: Gorgan Schists have a wide range of rocks including slate and philite to schists. They have a wide compositional range and show different stages of deformation as S0, S1 and S2 foliations. The mafic igneous rocks have been reported by many resaerchers in this complex. These igneous rocks exit as interbeds of lava flows in schists as well as small intrusion and scattred dykes. Interbeds of lava flows are melanocratic and have vesicular and flowing structures. They have basaltic composition and altered extensively. Plagioclase as microlite in matrix and as phenocrysts are the main minerals of these rocks. Existence of sphen around the cpx show that the cpx is Ti- augite. A various minerals such as chlorite, epidote, sphen, albite, sericite, zoizite, clinozoizite, calcite, quartz and … as micrograns, veins and coarse grains formed in these rocks. Porphyric, glomeroporphyric and trachyty- porphiric are the main textures of basalts. Small intrusiouns, specially in Naharkhoran vally intruded in these schiste. Their appearences are melanocrate and have gabbroic composition. Their chemical compositions are very simillar to basalts. These rocks affected intensively by mextamorphism and alteration and show a wide range of secondery minerals.Gabbros have granular, intergranular, ophitic and subophitic textures. Small dykes with basaltic. Trachytic and andesitic compositions, exist in whole area. In these rocks, CPX is low or absent, plagioclase increeses and alkali feldspars appears as phenocryst. In petrographical studies, can be seen a fractional crystallisation range from basic to intermediate in igneous rocks. In geochemical studies, exitence a lot of normative olivine and small amounts of feldspatoid in some rocks, indicate SiO2 undersaturation of parental magma. Indeed, this magma had alkaline nature. Spider diagrams show LREE and LILE enrichments and HREE depletions. These indicate low grade partial melting of sourse region. Forthermore, relative enrichment in HFSE (absence of Ti depletion and existence of Nb positive anomaly) indicate an enriched sourse for these rocks, absence of contamination with continental crust and similsrity of them with interacontinental alkaline magma, parallel patterns in spider diagrams and ration close to 1 in OIB normalaize diagrams, indicate the semilarity of their sourse to OIB magma sourse. baxsed on the results of tectonic discrimmination diagrams and sourse region characteristic, these rocks had been formed from 2-10% partial melting of an asthenospheric mantle sourse with garnet spinel lherzolitic composition in 100-110 km depth in an intercontinental rift enviroment. This enviroment consistent with extensional regime governed on northeast edge og Gondwana Supercontinent and fomation of Turan rift in Ordoviciane – Silurian that resulted to creation of Paleotethys ocean.
