Abstarct: The study area is located in the western part of the Boroujerd in the High Zagros Mountain region. An NW-SE trending faults system in this area has displaced the Permian (Dalan), Mesozoic (Cretaceous limestone) and Cenozoic (Bakhtiari’s conglomerate and Shahbazan) formations.
In this research, the faulting pattern was investigated in two sections: 1) North faults (the Baraftab fault) and 2) South faults (the Mish Parvar fault) by using area’s morphology and channels offsets as well as faults surface displacement indicators like slickenlines. According to the given data, the Baraftab fault had two displacements, a pure reverse slip (former) and a dip-slip reverse one (younger). Because of the mechanism change along the Baraftab fault, this fault was investigated in different segmentations.
The Baraftab fault mechanism in SE was detected as a reverse fault and to the NW reverse fault with the sinistral strike-slip component. The Mishparvar fault mechanism was recognized as a reverse fault with a slightly dextral strike-slip component in the southeast and to the northwest dextral strike-slip.
In the Neotectonics period, the Bakhtiari’s conglomerates formation faulting is parallel to the Zagros fault and the mechanism has been detected as a sinistral strike-slip fault. It is noteworthy which this fault, had been discovered for the first time in this research by using morphotectonics features. Also according to the Baraftab fault placement relative to the main and active fault in the Zagros region (Dorud fault), and baxsed on made out a survey of the Baraftab fault, this fault can be considered as an R' fracture for the Zagros fault.
