Abstarct: Bastam area with an area of 484 square kilometers is located 6 kilometers north-east of Shahrood (Semnan province) between 55º and 55º 30΄ East longitude and 36º to 36º 30΄ North latitude. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the total organic carbon content and some hydrogeochemical properties of drinking water in this region. In order to investigate the above mentioned cases, 8 wells and 2 springs were sampled in two dry and wet seasons (summer of 2016) and (autumn 2016). The measured parameters at the site of sampling include electrical conductivity, acidity, and water temperature. Other parameters including total organic carbon, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, chlorine and sulfate, have been measured in the laboratory of Shahrood University of Technology. The obtained results regarding to total organic carbon show that the maximum and minimum of this parameter were 39 and 14 mg/l respectively, all of which were above the international standard limit of 2 to 4 mg/l . It is likely that the origin of organic matter in the studied area is due to agricultural activities and the use of fertilizers and pesticides, as well as the existence of coal in geologic formations such as Shemshak formation in the region. The results of hydrogeochemical studies of water samples represent that next to the hights, were the main origin of the water is from the geological from ations, the values of electrical conductivities is least. However, in the central regions, where the groundwater moves mainly in the alluvium, the values of electrical conductivities are relatively high. Comparison between the values of total organic carbon and electrical conductivity in drinking water resources of the bastam region show that there is no any distinctive relationship between these parameters. This is because the origin of total organic carbon, in addition to natural pollutants, is related to man-made pollutants.
