QE139 : Landfill Site Selection for Hazardous Waste In the Golestan Province, by GIS

Abstarct: In this research it is tried to prepare a set of criteria for selecting a suitable landfill Golestan province, baxsed on the international criteria on landfill site selection for hazardous wastes and the opinions of the exerts familiar with conditions of the study area. These criteria may classified into criteria related to climate, hydrology, hydrogeology, soil science, geology, ecology, social and economical, and miscellaneous groups. In other to select a suitable site for Golestan province, the above mentioned criteria were applied using GIS. In applying the mentioned criteria, firstly the areas were landfills cannot be sited were excluded using an appropriate buffer. Thereafter, the residual areas those remaining after the buffering process are weighted baxsed on thir characteristics. In the last step, the remaining and potentially suitable landfill sites according to their total points, circular ratio, and areas are assessed and finally the most suitable variants are selected. According to the hazardous wastes in Golestan province are located in the central Atrak in the north of the province. In this area, there is no aquifer except a small flow of saline groundwater. The measurements carried out in the area indicate that the values of electrical conductivity fall between 20000 to 70000 micromhs/cm.
