The study area involves three volcanic masses including Amirabad, Zarrinkamar and Siahkuh. The Amirabad mass is located 12 Km north of Shahrood, and Zarrinkamar and Siahkuh masses are located 36 Km northeast of Shahrood. The study area is a part of the Eastern Alborz zone, intensely superimposed by the Alpine orogenic phases during Cenozoic, and Eocene volcanic eruptions are abserved through the area.
From petrographical point of view, there are different types of rocks in the area. The rocks in the Zarrinkamar and Siahkuh masses involve trachybasalt, trachyandesite, andesite, trachyte, and in the Amirabad mass include andesite and trachyandesite. Also pyroclastic rocks extends through the area.
These volcanic rocks show a variety of textures such as porphyry, flow, and gelomero porphyry, and dominantly contain primary minerals such as magnetite, pyroxene, plagioclase, and alkali feldspar.
These rocks are often alterated and alteration minerals are abundant, such as saussurite, damurite, epidote, cholorite, calcite, siderite, quartz, and sericite.
Geochemical data such as major, minor and rare earth elements (REE), show spread of magmas differentiation and fractional crystallization, confirmed by petrographical evidences. Also, alkaline nature of the rocks is certain. The results of petrological and geochemisterical studies and investigation of tectono-magmatic diagrams show that the magma was originated from the upper mantle, and formed in a continental arc setting.
In terms of economic potential, according to the some evidences including traces of silica veins with comb texture, travertine deposits, hydrothermal breccias containing pyrite and also argilitic, adjularia, sericitic, silicic and choloritic alterations, and grade of silver considerable in altered zone, there is possibility type of low-sulfidation of epithermal gold mineralization in the area.
