Abstarct: Use of zirconia as catalyst and catalyst support has increased manifold over the past decade. Catalytic applications of zirconia powder have been reported in a variety of reactions such as alkylation, condensation, isomerization, cracking, hydration and oxidation. In this work sol-gel derived nano-zirconia has been functionalized with 3-tri-methoxy silyl propyl amine by refluxing in toluene. Then the amine group was converted to Schiff baxse by refluxing with salicyl aldehyde in ethanol (IFNZ). Schiff baxse functionalized zirconia, then was refluxed in a solution of MoO2(acac)2 in CHCl3 and mextalated catalyst, Mo-IFNZ, has been prepared. CHN and ICP analysis showed that the amount of nitrogen and Mo loading on Mo-IFNZ are 0.330 and 0.237 mmol/g, respectively. Mo-IFNZ was also characterized by FT-IR, TG-DSC and TEM technique. The catalytic procedure for this catalyst was optimized for different parameters such as amount of catalyst (10 , 15 , 20 and 25 mg ), type of solvent (chloroform, dichloromethane, carbon tetrachloride, methanol, acetone and acetonitrile), amount of solvent(1, 2 and 3ml chloroform), type of oxidant(t-butyl-hydro-peroxide and hydrogen peroxide), amount of oxidant (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3ml t-butyl-hydro-peroxide) and time (30-150 min). It was found that the optimized conditions with this heterogeneous nano-catalyst were 15mg of catalyst,1.5ml CCl4 as solvent, and 1.12 mmol tert-butyl hydro peroxide as oxidant in 60 min time.
