Abstarct: This study assesses and compares the social problems of different provinces and examines the effect of macroeconomic variables on the level of the social problems during the years 2006 to 2019. Due to the multi-dimensionality of social dilemmas, the artificial composite index of social problems had used to compare the social dilemmas of the provinces. The main dimensions or components of the artificial composite index of social problems include murder, conflict, addicts, theft, accidents, and divorce. The synthesis of the artificial composite index of social problems has been done with the P2-Distance approach and with R software. In 2019, the position of the three provinces of South-Khorasan, Ilam, and North-Khorasan is at the bottom of the ranking table of social problems, and the position of the three provinces of Tehran, West-Azerbaijan, and Khorasan-Razavi is at the top of the ranking table. The results of comparing the changes in the level of social problems index of the provinces during the research period show that the social problems of Markazi province had the highest increase while the social problems of Semnan province had the highest decrease. Two-factor analysis of variance of the estimated artificial social problems index shows that both the factors of provincial fixed effects and the calendar effects on the level of the index of the social problem are significant. The results of studying the effect of macroeconomic variables on the index of the social problem by estimating the panel data regression model show that effects of variables such as provincial per capita value-added, interest rates, unemployment rates, population rates, Gini coefficient, and coin prices on the level of social problems is not significant. But variables such as exchange rates and the provincial consumer prices index are significant on the level of social problems.
