HA153 : The effect of cooperative ownership on the value added of Iranian food and beverage Industries, 1374-1392

Abstarct: This study has investigated the impact of cooperative ownership on the value added of 22 activity categories of food and beverage industries in Iran during the years 1995-2013 using dynamic panel data. In this study, first briefly according to article 44 of the constitution that considers the ownership in three sectors public, private and cooperative ownership, the review of background, principles, objectives, organizational structure and the importance of cooperatives, the prospect of the cooperative sector and the overall policy of this sector and the benefits of cooperative ownership model has been investigated. In addition, the previous studies of ownership structure on the performance of firms and companies conducted both domestic and abroad will be examined. The results and also the performance indicators that are considered in these studies are not identical. In this study, we examined the value added that is obtained by subtracting the value of output and the value of data as a performance variable. According to the pattern of structure- behavior- function, the structural and behavioral variables also affect the performance. Therefore, in this research we also studied the impact of some structural variables such as concentration degree and market share and also the impact of behavioral variables such as advertising cost and research and development cost on the value added and profitability indicators. Therefore the value added is considered as a dependent variable and ownership, concentration degree, market share, advertising cost and research and development costs variables are considered as independent variables and also the value added of the prior period is used as an instrumental variable. The main hypothesis that is by changing the ownership structure of firms into cooperative, the value added on foos and beverage industries in Iran increases, was not approved.
