Abstarct: One of the methods for producing nanostructured materials is severe plastic deformation (SPD). In this method, a high density of dislocations is created by applying high plastic strains and the mechanical properties of the mextal are significantly improved. One of the salient features of SPD processes, is that the dimensions of the sample remain constant during the process, so due to this feature of the process, a significant strain can be applied to the material. In this research, accumulative roll bonding (ARB) which is one of the SPD methods was used as an alternative method for producing 1050Al-YSZ composite. The aim of this research was to evaluate the mechanical, corrosion and microstructural properties of 1050Al-YSZ composite produced by the ARB process. The annealed aluminum sheets were subjected to different ARB cycles. Monolithic and composite samples containing 5 vol% of YSZ were produced. Corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of monolithic and composite samples were investigated and compared together and with starting aluminium. Microscopic investigations were carried out by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Tensile and hardness tests and also potentiodynamic test were used to study the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the samples, respectively. The results show that after applying 6 cycles of ARB, the hardness of Al-5 vol.% YSZ sample was about 2.63 times that of starting aluminum. The results of the potentiodynamic test also showed that ARB increases the corrosion potential and reduces the corrosion current density. It was generally found that ARB improves mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The improvement in corrosion resistance is attributed to the ability of the high density of surface grain boundaries to passivate.
