Abstarct: One of the most difficult and most important problems for geotechnical engineers is to forecast the subsidence of foundation. Foundations are parts of the building that are built for transferring the imposed load to the subsoils from structures that stay on. These loads cause compressive stress in sub laxyers foundation in soil and press it. From the point of engineering view, this problem causes vertical foundation displacement on soil or subsidence of foundation that can destroy the foundation and disrupt engineering operations. Therefore, according to high resolution of the ground penetrating radar (GPR) method in shallow depths, its high speed and simplicity of the data acquisition and non-destructiveness for urban and residential area, in this thesis, this method is used to study the subsidence locations and amount of subsoil compaction at Jajarm alumina factory in North Khorasan Province. After surveying different part of the factory and considering the evidences related to the subsidence phenomen like fractures on the walls, destroyed wind brace, and also the subsidence around tanks containing NaOH solution, 27 survey lines were designed in different locations of the factory by Geophysics team of the faculty of Mining, Petroleum & Geophysics, Shahrood University of Technology using Noggin Smart GPR system having 250 MHz antenna produced by Canadian Sensors and Software company. Finally, Ekko Project software package was used to process data. The study of the subsidence’s location and possible heterogeneities of the subsoil laxyers used up to the maximum possible depth and estimation of soil compaction and finally the depiction of these heterogeneities by the GPR method are the main goals of this thesis that according to the results from processed GPR sections, it can be said that GPR method has high capability in detecting sudsidence locations as the subsidence locations with high accuracy are recognizable by the GPR method. Also, the examination of the all existing anomalies available in the range of the survey profiles in the factory, particularly mextal plates, channels, and other underground mextal targets in the survey location, done successfully.
