Abstarct: Faults, salt domes and buried channels, are the important structural events that their detection and localization in the seismic data is an important factor for hydrocarbon reservoir characterization. But these events are often a poor reflection on seismic data and they are rarely detectable. Seismic attributes are a useful tool that will reveal hidden information in seismic data. In this thesis are used a seismic attribute baxsed on Sobel filter to detect these events on seismic reflection data. Sobel filter is commonly used in edge detection. This filter is sensitive to changes in the amplitude and use the derivative approximation to find edges Therefore, it returns edges at those points where the gradient of the considered image is maximum. Consequently it highlights boundaries and discontinuities as areas with high amplitude. To improve the results of edge detection in seismic data, the various sizes of Sobel operators can be apply reflected events. Calculate the changes of dip in the seismic data can improve the results in the identification of boundaries. Thus, prior to the Sobel calculation the structural dip is estimated by finding the dip that maximizes coherency between adjacent trace at a local window. Subsequently, amplitude values are extracted from the seismic volume parallel to the dip. Then discontinuities and boundaries detect in the presence of dip. The new technique that has been used in this thesis is using the balancing baxsed on the Hilbert transform to identify the boundaries of the salt dome. Balancing will help a lot to better show the salt boundaries, especially boundaries with smaller amplitude. In this thesis common Sobel seismic attribute and Balancing Sobel with taking into the dip is applied on synthetic and real seismic sections. Results indicate better performance of techniques presented in this thesis to detect the reflection seismic events.
